If you’ve worked with me or attended any of my lectures/seminars/workshops, you know I’m complexion obsessed. I typically say you can only get exceptional complexion finishes with professional products …but Urban Decay might have changed my mind with Naked Skin Liquid Makeup.
As far as I’m concerned, if skin doesn’t look fantastic, the rest of the makeup is sub-par (I don’t care how gorgeous your smoky eyes look). My biggest dilema has been finding a consumer liquid makeup that lives up to its own hype. I test products HARD and expect them to do what their marketing claims say they’ll do. Most of the time I’m disappointed (and a little pissed off).
So, because of all the previous fails, I resisted giving this foundation a test run. Fast forward May 2013 - I meet their PR person (hey Tammy) at a few industry events and she graciously sends me a bunch of Urban Decay’s Naked Skin foundation. So I had no other choice but to test drive it and be let down …again.
Instead, I found myself compelled to admit something I rarely have to – I WAS WRONG (I can hear the “ice-skating in Hell” jokes already).
Besides having a ridiculously long name, Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup (stops for a breath), the stuff lived up to the hype. Urban Decay claims, “the weightless formula blurs imperfections for a flawless finish that feels invisible, but looks professionally retouched” – and I’ll be damned if it didn’t do EXACTLY that.
Here’s what I loved about it:
- The colors are beautifully calibrated (shades that look human).
- The coverage is extremely adjustable from sheer to full (when layered).
- It self-sets to a finish that doesn’t feel sticky or tacky.
- The finish is in that sweet spot between matte and satin.
- It stays where you put it without using a setting powder.
- It looks completely natural …even up close ( so it’s HD compliant).
I was impressed enough to give it the ultimate test – I wore it (you heard me). Not only did I wear it (I’m a perfect shade 4.5), I wore it at a very important industry event. A few weeks ago I attended the WWD Beauty Summit. This is an uber-prestigious yearly event and is attended by a international who’s who of cosmetic industry elite. Most people I chatted with made it a point to mention how great my skin looked and asked what skincare I was using or if I’d had any ”procedures” done. I felt particularly smug during a presentation by Wende Zomnir, founding partner of Urban Decay. She spoke about innovation in cosmetics and I was wearing visible proof of her innovative in the consumer foundation category …and not one senior cosmetic executive noticed I had it on. BAM!
So enough gushing. Let’s wrap this up because I’m making myself nauseous.
Here’s my final breakdown:
- Even if you HATE wearing makeup because of how it feels and looks …this is for you.
- No other consumer foundation gives you this much bang for only $38 USD.
- All you folks with darker skin tones can relax – they have believable colors for you too.
Love and light my makeup mavens – xoxo
